Don't Fight the Future

Ride the Wave

Change is inevitable. Without it, all life stagnates. The adoption of and changes brought on by AI and LLM (Large Language Models) are the fastest of any technology to date. According to the data, 173 million people use ChatGPT, arguably the most popular LLM. The adoption started at the beginning of 2023 and accelerated at a rate beyond what we have experienced with other technologies. For example, Microsoft’s Office 365, as of 2022, has 345 million paid licenses. The net-net is that new technologies arrive every day. Your team, partners, and clients are at least starting to experiment with them.

According to one set of research, “These 20 jobs are the most "exposed" to AI, ChatGPT, researchers say.” Professions in Social Sciences and Humanities are most exposed. Exposed should be read as open to disruption. While jobs like Telemarketing could ultimately be replaced, teaching positions are the highest categories for change. That change comes from using LLM technology as a teacher’s aid. Research, the organization of data (e.g., lesson plans), and the training of students on how to properly and ethically use the tools rank high. Just like access to the Internet lowered the barrier to research and information sources, LLMs allow students to speed the research process and potentially develop semi or finished works. And just like the Internet, there are both good and bad results. I’ve categorized the exposed jobs below.

New technologies emerge routinely. In today’s world, the pace of change is accelerated. Adapting to Job Changes Due to AI: Embracing the Future of Work
